Well, I pulled it off..

Description

After 9 months of continuous clouds, in addition to last summer's wildfire smoke, I vowed, once the skies cleared, to be out with every piece of astro gear I owned and fill up "10, no 20!"  hard drives. Full moon, short nights...don't care!

Summer famously starts here July 5 and this year was no exception. That second week of July everything went out into the yard. Life was good. Then a week later I had a pulmonary embolism. Rather unpleasant business really, but its hard to describe how such a thing completely wipes a person out. Its a unique level of fatigue.

A few days after being home from the hospital, in a way only you here would understand (and much to the dismay of my wife), I started lamenting all the clear nights I was missing. Fortunately not only was everything still in the yard (pic above), but my winter astro project was to automate and set up remote control of all my gear. My Mrs. offered (insisted really) to do the heavy lifting -which was just taking the covers off - but I was back in the yard with my laptop running the gear! A graduated to handling the covers myself after about a week and thus began the evening ritual.

The wildfire smoke, and clouds, have returned, but even if this is the end of a rather short season I will oddly think back on this summer fondly. It was rather peaceful really and my "malady" made me slow down and just enjoy the hours under the stars. Besides, I now have enough imaging backlog to keep me busy until Christmas!
